Apple has officially released the newest version of macOS Sierra to the public, following weeks of developer beta seeds. Apple today released macOS Sierra 10.12.6 to the public. As the version numbers suggest, this is a minor update, not meant to add a plethora of new features to the mix. This update will fix behind-the-scenes issues and improve overall performance.

It’s available as a free download, as usual. For Mac owners, the update is available to download and install via the Mac App Store. Users will need to open the app and then access the Updates tab. The new software should be there ready to install. As usual it may take some time to upgrade the desktop operating system, even with it being a minor upgrade, so plan accordingly. The big changes to the desktop operating system will arrive later this year, when Apple officially releases macOS High Sierra.

Interestingly enough it’s another update that’s primarily meant on improvements across the board. There will be new features, including the Apple File System and more. If you want a quick look, arriving in macOS High Sierra later this year.

Unfortunately, while that desktop operating system update is expected to arrive sometime later this year, we don’t have an exact date to circle on the calendar just yet. Still, the wait shouldn’t be too much longer, with many expecting it to arrive in late September.
