I jus purchased this for my MacBook Pro retina early 2013 model. It is 16GB ram and has a 512GB SS hard drive. From what I understand I bring up my MacBook Pro and go to Time Machine and plug in the WD drive.

Last night I was going to backup my laptop using My Passport for Mac. The WD software told me to update my firmware, which I did, and then updated the software itself. Once the firmware was updated my computer no longer recognized the external harddrive when it was plugged in through USB. WD My Passport 1TB won't mount anymore.
