Was just wondering if that was possible since I have a steam link, and plenty of room, in my living room. IIRC there are 2-3 USB connections that need to be made, which I think the Steam Link has on the back (plus one on the side), but I was just wondering if there were any issues, specifically related to latency or performance. I have my steam link physically plugged into a router and have noticed zero latency when playing games on my monitor. I really want the Valve VR but it seems like a waste if you can't put it in a room to accommodate the motion tracking and stuff. Was just wondering if that was possible since I have a steam link, and plenty of room, in my living room.

The Oculus requires one HDMI port and two USB 3.0 ports.

The USB 3.0 ports aren't required for their throughput, they are required for their power consumption because the Oculus headset and the Oculus sensor are both powered by their USB connection (impressive for the headset considering it has two backlit displays plus the IR grid and accelerometers). The Vive, however, only uses one HDMI port and one USB 2 port. The lightboxes are connected to AC power and have no physical connection back to the computer because the sensors are on the headset itself. How much storage do i need for osx. The headset connects to a junction box via a three cable bundle (video, USB and power), and then the junction box connects to AC power, then to the PC via the USB and HDMI.

In both cases, it wouldn't work because of the HDMI connection. I can't even put a switchbox between the PC and the headset and have it work (I've tried) so I have to manually plug and unplug the headsets to switch between them which is somewhat annoying. Technically they can both be plugged in at the same time -but- there's a requirement where they have to be plugged into the primary video card in order to work, and I already have four out of the five video ports on my main video card occupied at any given time. Steam Link can't support the resolution and refresh rate that either headset requires, anyway.

But in addition to that, the USB 2 port requirement on the Vive is. For some reason, you can't plug the Vive into any old USB port and have it work. The headset works, but the optional camera tends to fail on 'some' USB buses and the instructions don't go into any detail as to why or which ones will and won't work.
