Has anyone had any issues with the software that comes with it? Can I still use the WD passport ultra and just drop files into it without having to use the WD software? Does anyone know how much space that software takes up on the WD passport Ultra?

It does take just a few megabytes and if you don't need it, you could simply reformat the drive. By default, it should be formatted NTFS for Windows, so for OS X you'll need to reformat it anyways.
